Sandend Bay, Flow Tide

I’ve just been up to Sandend for my holidays, which is a beautiful tiny traditional northeast fishing village on the Moray Firth coast; a great favourite of surfers, campers and dolphins! I completed this pastel while there. I used water with the pastel first to create washes of colour over the whole picture, then after it dried a bit I went over the washes with dry pastel to create detail. I was interested in capturing the tide which was coming in quite quickly in this picture.

  1. This is my favourite, you have captured the impression of flowing tide. Very difficult. Good toplight. Very well observed.
