I’ve been out and about doing lots of small pastel sketches recently to use as source material for bigger paintings back at the studio. Here are a few of beautiful Bennachie, the biggest hill in these parts.
I section off a few boxes on my paper with masking tape and work on around 4 sketches at the same time, focussing on different aspects of colour, light, composition in each. The results give me lots of information to use in my paintings later.
