About Jane

I was born and brought up in Peterhead until going to Edinburgh College of Art to study Drawing and Painting in 1992. After graduating, I went on to do an MA in European Fine Art in Winchester and Barcelona in 1997-98 before coming back to the North East to live and work.

Since graduating I have worked on many art projects including being artist-in-residence at Peterhead Power Station and Peterhead Academy, teaching art to children and adults in further education, museum and school settings, and working on public art projects in Peterhead and Newburgh, where I now live.

Newburgh is a village situated on the beautiful coastline half-way between Peterhead and Aberdeen. It sits on the estuary of the river Ythan and has an extensive dunes system and a windswept beach with lots of seals and birds. I am inspired by the coast and especially the coast around Newburgh.

I love using colour and loose, expressive brush marks to capture the sense of freedom and space I feel in these beautiful and often remote coastal locations where the sea meets the land. I hope viewers can relate to this feeling when looking at my work.
