I worked collaboratively with the teachers and all the children of Newburgh Mathers School to produce an artwork to commemorate the centenary of the end of WW1 in 2018. Together with the children, we decided to take inspiration from the Tower of London ceramic poppies public artwork and paint our own poppies. I applied for funding and got money to buy a metal poppy for each child at the school and worked with each class to paint the poppies with different shades of red metal paint. The resulting poppies were attached to outside walls in the school playground producing a very effective commemorative public artwork. Some of the poppies have been kept back by the school who want to make a trail of them around the village once they gain permission to fix them to other buildings.
